An energy supplier is calling for a transparent Contract for Difference in the new Energy Bill to protect business energy customers.
Haven Power which is sponsoring The Energy Live Consultancy Awards’ I&C Consumer Champion category is concerned an opaque mechanism for paying energy generators could lead to higher bills.
Antony Badger, head of supplier management at Haven Power said: “As part of the new Energy Bill, which is currently progressing through Parliament, new schemes are being proposed to ensure the momentum of low carbon power generation projects is maintained.”
Under current schemes like the current Feed in Tariff for small renewable generators, he explained, the costs are not known until well after the event – and he wants to make sure openness is built into new legislation.
Mr Badger went on: “Having early visibility of the cost of these initiatives will allow suppliers to provide customers with the pricing arrangements that they are asking for while avoiding the need to pay any additional premium for budgetary certainty.”
He added: “For Haven, it’s vital that we maintain transparency and openness with our customers, so while we support any scheme to address the country’s future electricity supply needs, it is important that government engages with and listens to the needs of the ‘bill payers’ as well as low carbon generators and developers.”
